Wild Cucumber

Wild cucumber is a climbing and trailing plant that grows from a large woody or fleshy under ground root. The root can weigh up to 45kgs (100lbs)...the weight of an average 13 years old. Due to this massive root, wild cucumber is also referred to as manroot.

This plant is non-native to PEI. Once this plant is established it can be quite invasive, climbing to the tops of trees. The vine-like stem spreads over neighbouring trees, shrubs and fence posts creating a blanket, smothering the plant life.  All parts of wild cucumber are poisonous and should not be eaten.
